Set up your eSIM on iPhone

Here is how to install your eSIM on iPhone. It takes a few minutes and works without an app.

Before you start

  • Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
  • For the one tap installation you need iOS 17.4 or newer. You can see your version under Settings, General, About.
  • Only install the eSIM on the iPhone that will use it. An eSIM can only be installed on one phone.
  • Travelling to Turkey? Install the eSIM at home before you fly. In Turkey, eSIM provider websites are blocked, but an installed eSIM works there as normal.

Option 1

With one tap

Works from iOS 17.4 if you open the link on the iPhone that will use the eSIM.

  1. Open the email with your eSIM or your order page on this iPhone.
  2. Tap “Install on this iPhone”.
  3. Confirm the question on your iPhone and follow the steps on the screen.
  4. Give the eSIM a name, for example “Travel”. How to set up the lines is explained below.

Option 2

With the QR code

For this, open the QR code on a second screen, for example on a laptop or another phone.

  1. Open the email or your order page on the second screen. You will see the QR code there.
  2. On your iPhone, open Settings, Mobile Service, Add eSIM.
  3. Tap Use QR Code and point the camera at the code.
  4. Follow the steps and give the eSIM a name, for example “Travel”.

You cannot scan the QR code with the iPhone that is showing it. In that case, use the one tap way or type in the codes by hand.

Option 3

Type it in by hand

For everyone without a second screen who uses an iOS older than 17.4.

  1. Open your order page and expand “Codes to type in”. Tap “Copy” next to the SM-DP+ address.
  2. Open Settings, Mobile Service, Add eSIM, Use QR Code and tap Enter Details Manually at the bottom.
  3. Paste the SM-DP+ address. Then copy the activation code on your order page and paste it into the second field. Leave the “Confirmation Code” field empty.
  4. Tap Next and give the eSIM a name.

During installation

Your iPhone will ask you a few questions. Here is how to answer:

  • Name of the eSIMFor example “Travel”. That way you can find it quickly later.
  • Default line for calls and iMessageYour own number. That way everyone can reach you as usual.
  • Mobile DataYour own number for now. You switch to the eSIM when you arrive at your destination.

If your iPhone asks whether it may switch between lines for mobile data by itself, leave that off.

Arrived at your destination

  1. Open Settings, Mobile Service, Mobile Data and choose “Travel”.
  2. Under “SIMs”, tap “Travel” and turn on Data Roaming.
  3. Tap your own number and turn Data Roaming off there. That way your provider at home will not charge roaming costs.

Your days start as soon as the eSIM goes online at your destination for the first time.

Back home

  1. Under Settings, Mobile Service, Mobile Data, switch back to your own number.
  2. Only delete the eSIM after your trip, not while travelling. You can do this under Mobile Service: tap “Travel” and then Delete eSIM.

The eSIM ends by itself after your days. After that it costs nothing.

If it does not work

The iPhone cannot add the eSIM

Usually the internet connection is missing. Connect to Wi-Fi and try again. If it still does not work, check on your order page whether the eSIM already shows as installed.

The code is invalid or already used

An eSIM can only be installed once. Check under Settings, Mobile Service whether “Travel” is already there. If so, you are all set. If it is on another phone, write to us.

“SIM not supported”

Your iPhone is probably locked to your provider (SIM lock). Ask your provider to unlock it. If you have not installed the eSIM yet, you get your money back: tap “Not installed? Get your money back” in your order.

I have no internet at my destination

Go through the steps under No internet at your destination? in order.

No internet at your destination?

Go through these steps in order. Often one of the first ones already helps.

  1. Are you already in a country your package covers? The eSIM only connects there.
  2. Is the eSIM switched on? Under Settings, Mobile Service, “Travel”, “Turn On This Line” must be on.
  3. Is “Travel” selected under Mobile Data, and is Data Roaming on for “Travel”?
  4. Turn on Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then turn it off again.
  5. Choose the network yourself: Settings, Mobile Service, “Travel”, Network Selection, turn off “Automatic” and pick a network from the list. The networks your package uses are listed with the package for your destination.
  6. Switch to 4G: Settings, Mobile Service, “Travel”, Voice & Data, LTE.
  7. Restart your iPhone.
  8. Still not working? Don't delete the eSIM, it usually can't be installed again. Message us with a screenshot of Settings, Mobile Service.
