Set up your eSIM on Android

Here is how to install your eSIM on an Android phone. It takes a few minutes and works without an app.

Before you start

  • Connect your phone to Wi-Fi.
  • Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi and Motorola name their menus differently. You will find the way for your phone under Menu names. Depending on your Android version, the items may be named a little differently.
  • Only install the eSIM on the phone that will use it. An eSIM can only be installed on one phone.
  • Travelling to Turkey? Install the eSIM at home before you fly. In Turkey, eSIM provider websites are blocked, but an installed eSIM works there as normal.

Option 1

With the code

This works directly on the phone that will use the eSIM.

  1. Open the email with your eSIM or your order page on this phone and tap “Copy code”.
  2. Open “Add eSIM” in your settings. Where to find it is shown for your brand below.
  3. On the scan screen, tap “Enter activation code” or “Enter code manually” and paste the code.
  4. Confirm with “Next” or “Add” and give the eSIM a name, for example “Travel”.

Option 2

With the QR code

For this, open the QR code on a second screen, for example on a laptop or another phone.

  1. Open the email or your order page on the second screen. You will see the QR code there.
  2. On your phone, open “Add eSIM”. You will find the way for your brand below.
  3. Choose “Scan QR code” and point the camera at the code.
  4. Follow the steps and give the eSIM a name, for example “Travel”.

Arrived at your destination

  1. Switch mobile data to the eSIM “Travel”. The way is shown for your brand under “Choose mobile data”.
  2. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM.
  3. Turn off data roaming for your own number. That way your provider at home will not charge roaming costs.

Your days start as soon as the eSIM goes online at your destination for the first time.

Data roaming

Samsung Galaxy
Settings, Connections, Mobile networks, Data roaming
Google Pixel
Settings, Network & internet, SIMs, tap the eSIM, Roaming
Xiaomi and Redmi
Settings, SIM cards & mobile networks, tap the eSIM, Data roaming
Motorola
Settings, Network & internet, SIMs, tap the eSIM, Roaming

Back home

  1. Switch mobile data back to your own number.
  2. Only delete the eSIM after your trip, not while travelling. You can do this where you added it.

The eSIM ends by itself after your days. After that it costs nothing.

If it does not work

“Invalid activation code”

Copy the full code on your order page again and paste it again. If the eSIM already shows in your settings, it is already installed.

The eSIM cannot be added

Usually the internet connection is missing. Connect to Wi-Fi and try again. If it still does not work, check on your order page whether the eSIM already shows as installed.

“SIM not supported”

Your phone is probably locked to your provider (SIM lock). Ask your provider to unlock it. If you have not installed the eSIM yet, you get your money back: tap “Not installed? Get your money back” in your order.

I have no internet at my destination

Go through the steps under No internet at your destination? in order.

No internet at your destination?

Go through these steps in order. Often one of the first ones already helps.

  1. Are you already in a country your package covers? The eSIM only connects there.
  2. Is the eSIM switched on? You'll find the way for your brand under “Menu names”.
  3. Is the eSIM chosen for mobile data, and is data roaming on for it?
  4. Turn on Airplane Mode for 30 seconds, then turn it off again.
  5. Choose the network yourself: in the eSIM settings under “Network operators”, turn off automatic selection and pick a network from the list. The networks your package uses are listed with the package for your destination.
  6. Set the preferred network type for the eSIM to 4G or LTE.
  7. Restart your phone.
  8. Still not working? Don't delete the eSIM, it usually can't be installed again. Message us with a screenshot of your SIM settings.
